Where to park for the Tower of Pisa?

If you plan to visit Pisa by car, you should know that the historic center is a ZTL (limited traffic zone)and this greatly reduces the possibility of finding a parking space, especially a free one.

Most of the parking areas, both those near the Piazza dei Miracoli and in the areas next to the historic center, are mostly fee-based.

The best free parking areas near Miracle Square are three:

Paparelli Street (Market Parking)

The parking lot on Via Alberto Paparelli is located outside the walls that border the historic center of Pisa. Located about 1 km from the Leaning Tower, it is the closest free parking to the Tower of Pisa and Piazza dei Miracoli.

It is free every day except Wednesday and Saturday when the square hosts the weekly market (days when parking is not allowed).

The parking lot is equipped with toilets and water supply, but no large buses or coaches are allowed to park there.

From here you can walk to Piazza del Duomo in just over 20 minutes, but if you don’t feel like walking, you can take bus number 120 and get off at the V.Brennero Porta A Lucca stop, and then proceed on foot to Piazza dei Miracoli.

From here, you can reach the Leaning Tower on foot, a 24-minute walk, or via bus number 11, in about 14 minutes.

If you are an RVer, you should know that this is one of the best areas in Pisa in which to park your RV.

It is located in a quiet and safe area, away from city traffic and close to many businesses, including bars, stores and restaurants.

Via Pietrasantina

This parking lot is located outside the city walls of Pisa, specifically on Via Pietrasantina, and a stone’s throw from the Pisa soccer stadium.

Once you park your car, you can take the bus to Piazza dei Miracoli, where the Tower is located.

The bus runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from March 15 to October 14, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in other months. The bus ticket costs 1€, and shuttles leave only every 10 to 15 minutes.

Again, parking is also allowed for large tour buses and RVs.

You should know that this parking lot is very popular with visitors so you may have some difficulty finding a parking space, especially in the high season.

If you don’t feel like walking and want to reach Piazza dei Miracoli by bus, you have to take the bus number 1+ at the Vittorio Emanuele stop and get off at Tower 1, which is a 5-minute walk from the Tower of Pisa. The cost is 2€ per hour.

Other paid parking in central Pisa

All on-street parking bordered by a blue strip is metered. To make the parking balance, you can do it in cash at the parcometer (leave the ticket on the dashboard of the car), or use the EasyPark app (in this case, remember to display a sheet or sticker that says “EasyPark” on the windshield, otherwise the parking attendant may mistakenly give you a ticket).

You should know that most of these parking lots charge from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.. However, if you plan to visit Pisa for an evening stroll along the Arno River or to enjoy some delicacies in its quaint restaurants, you won’t have to worry about paying for street parking.

Another useful info is that on Sundays you do not pay for parking in the blue zones in Pisa. So, you can leave your car for free in the spaces marked by the blue lines without worrying about acquiring a parking ticket.

It is still advisable to pay attention to road signs nearby to avoid possible fines, for example, for street cleaning (in which case, the opposite side of the road should be available, so I recommend you check the side of the road before parking!).
