What is the best time to visit the Tower of Pisa?
Want to avoid the crowds? The best time to visit the Leaning Tower is early morning, just after it opens, or late afternoon, after 6:00 pm. At these times there are fewer visitors, so you will avoid crowds.
If you visit during the winter, early afternoon, around 2 p.m., is a good time. Keep in mind that summer is the busiest time to visit the Tower.
The summer season begins in June and lasts until mid-September. If you want to avoid crowded days, the best time to visit the Leaning Tower is in spring or fall.

When to visit the Tower of Pisa for free?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to enter the attraction for free.
However, entrance tickets have reduced prices when purchased together with other attractions.
What to see in the Piazza dei Miracoli (besides the Tower of Pisa)?
While visiting the Tower of Pisa, you cannot miss the other monuments in the square. First of all, there is the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, one of the main buildings in the square, rich in traditions and legends.
On the opposite side of the square from the Campanile, you will find the Baptistery. It is the largest in Italy, founded in 1152, and testifies to the link between Pisa and the Near East.

How to get to the Tower of Pisa
Because the Leaning Tower is one of the most visited attractions in Tuscany and all of Italy, it is easy to reach from anywhere in the country.
The most common way to get to Pisa is from Florence, thanks to the many organized tours and day trips available. You can also get to Pisa by public transportation, renting a car or taking the train.
Before visiting the famous tower, we recommend that you plan your arrival in advance. If you have booked a guided tour, transportation may be included.
Once you arrive at Pisa Central Station, you can take a shuttle bus or walk to the monument. The Piazza dei Miracoli is only 1.7 km from the central station.
How long does it take to visit the Tower of Pisa?
The visit to the Tower of Pisa takes about 30 minutes (ascent, stop at the top, and descent). Considering the early arrival, passage to the checkroom and possible queue, I recommend you plan at least 1 hour.

What do I need to know before going to Pisa?

Book your tickets in advance! I can’t say this enough.
There is a set time entry system for visits to the tower, and due to the high attendance (especially in high season) it is absolutely recommended to book your tickets in advance to visit the iconic monument.
Take a bottle of water with you
Especially if it is very hot. The bars and restaurants around the tower can be very crowded, especially in high season.
Recommended clothing
Although there is no dress code, the Pisa Foundation requires that shoulders, thigh and knees must remain covered for both the visit to the Tower and Pisa Cathedral.
Who can go up the tower
Inside the Tower of Pisa, the ancient floor is uneven and slippery.
This makes climbing the 294 steps very strenuous and can be a safety issue. Therefore, children under the age of 8 (completed or to be completed in the current year) are not allowed to climb the tower. In addition, the visit is strongly discouraged for visitors with reduced mobility and heart disease.
Accompaniment of minors
Minors under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult during the visit and may be required to show proof of age.
Security check
At the entrance, visitors may be checked with metal detectors (the device does not affect the functioning of pacemakers and defibrillators).
Pets allowed
It is not possible to enter the monuments and museums in Cathedral Square with animals (of any size and in any mode of transportation). The only exception is for certified guide dogs, which are useful for accompanying people with disabilities.
Disabled accessibility
Free visit is allowed only for disabled persons with their accompanying person.
Because of the quota and large influx of visitors, availability is limited to the time slots before 10:00 am and after 6:00 pm (closing 8:00 pm), 5:00 pm (closing 7:00 pm), 4:00 pm (closing 6:00 pm).

Luggage storage
Large luggage and suitcases are not allowed inside the various monuments of the Cathedral Square, but only small backpacks or bags (20 cm x 30 cm x 38 cm) are allowed.
In addition, if you are visiting the Tower, keep in mind that backpacks, bags or luggage, even if small in size, must be left in the Tower’s free checkroom (you can pick them up at the end of your visit).
